The top 10 most assists in Champions League history.
10. Kevin De Bruyne, 29
Our first entry is current-day Manchester City and Belgian international midfielder Kevin De Bruyne. He was part of the treble-winning side for the 2022/23 term and still regarded as one of the current best, if not the best, midfielders in the world.
9. Andres Iniesta, 29
Another midfielder on the list, Andres Iniesta is one of the most decorated midfield UEFA Champions League players in history. The Spaniard won at least four UCL titles with FC Barcelona, and he will go down as one of the all-time greats for the tournament.
8. Karim Benzema, 29
Karim Benzema draws equal to the previous entrants on this list with 29 assists and is undoubtedly a true UCL great, having contributed five to Real Madrid, including three wins in a row from 2015 to 2018. The French striker currently plays in the Saudi Pro League with Al Ittihad, and he is going to be sorely missed during those UCL nights.
7. Xavi Hernandez – 30
The long-time partner-in-crime for both club and country with Iniesta finds himself in sixth with just one more assist in the UCL for this great player: Xavi Hernandez. The former midfielder has won four UCLs and could one day win another as a manager.
6. Thomas Muller – 30
Bayern’s evergreen midfielder Thomas Muller won the tournament twice with his club during the 2012/13 and 2019/20 campaigns. Since Bayern did not win any silverware last season, Muller and co will be striving to amend that as they bid to win their third UCL title in the space of his career. Although the different start has not begun as well as hoped, Muller deservedly climbed on this list since the last issue with the 30th assist he made in the competition.
5. Ryan Giggs – 31
Moving into the top five is ex-Manchester United and Welsh winger Ryan Giggs, who twice lifted the UCL as a player. Once, it is with the Red Devils’ famous treble-winning side in 1998/99 and then against Chelsea in an all-English UCL final during the 2007/08 campaign.
4. Neymar – 33
At this position, Neymar is currently fourth on the list with 33 assists in the UCL. He did win one title while at Barcelona; the Brazilian has yet to bring the coveted trophy to Paris Saint-Germain before transferring to the Saudi Pro League to stand for Al Hilal.
3. Angel Di Maria-39
The number jumps up to 39 for the third position in UCL-all-time assists, where we find Argentinean winger Angel Di Maria. He played for quite a few highly-rated European clubs like Benfica, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid, but only won a single UCL title with Madrid in the 2014/15 season.
2. Lionel Messi-40
The second place is taken up, unsurprisingly, by Lionel Messi, who is just behind the first on the table with a remarkable total of 40 assists in UCL history. The diminutive Argentine wizard has four UCL titles to his name while plying trade at Barcelona. However, his dream to win one was sadly realised while at Paris Saint-Germain.
1. Cristiano Ronaldo-42
And the topmost place goes to none but Cristiano Ronaldo for the most number of assists in UCL history. The Portuguese legend has shattered so many records in this competition, of which this is but another.
Indeed, Ronaldo has won the UCL in five editions and is the only one on this chart to achieve this with two different clubs: four titles with Real Madrid and one with Manchester United
